Student Spotlight: Sarah Scoggin, AAE 2020

Student Spotlight: Sarah Scoggin, AAE 2020

What is your favorite part of engineering?

Applicability.  I can approach almost any problem and solve it.  You can use it to fix a leak or design a rocket (both I have done)!

What is the best thing about Purdue and/or why?

The commitment Purdue has to the professional development of their students.  The professional practice office has many opportunities to advance or start your career including career fairs, resume workshops, mock interviews, etc.

Tell us about a fun memory of your time at Purdue!

I was working on my design project for my aero design class. When we walked into the building, BUZZ ALDRIN (one of the first men on the moon) was standing there! I had a 45 minute conversation with a man who has been to the moon and back and understood every word!

Why do you love Purdue ?

The co-op program allows you to work every other semester full-time as a full time student but without classes.  You get to travel the country and get paid well while keeping your student status.

What sorts of things are you involved in on campus?

Professional Practice Ambassadors, WE Link

Fun fact?

I am a licensed private pilot

Favorite class and why?

Intro to Aerospace design. You learn (high level) everything you will be studying as an upperclassman

Something you wish you had known when going through college search process?

It's ok to not like a school even though your parents love that school.

Best advice you received for college?

Always go in smiling.  No matter how tired you are or how much you need to do, approach everything with a positive attitude.

Advice would you give to an incoming student?

1) GO TO CLASS. It's easy to fall behind. The class will not wait for you 2) If you don't understand a topic or a struggling with the homework, go to office hours

Anything else?

There is something for everyone. We have LARPing to shooting off rockets to squirrel watching.

Check back every Tuesday for more student spotlights!
