Residential Life Series: Legacy Lane

Move in day at Shreve Hall!

The Legacy Lane neighborhood is one of the most social neighborhoods! It consists of Earhart, Shreve, Harrison, and McCutcheon. It is home to a number of learning communities, making it one of the most common places for freshmen to live. Each building has a laundry room, communal bathrooms on each floor, vending machines, and a kitchenette that can be used by checking out the key at the front desk. Each has the same basic room layout:
Example of a room with 2 lofted beds. (McCutcheon and Harrison rooms do not have shelving on the wall)

Earhart Hall is home to the Women in Engineering Learning Community and has the Earhart Dining Court as well as Earhart On the Go, where students can use meal swipes to get snacks when they don’t feel like sitting down at the dining court. The bathrooms at Earhart have been recently redone, and they include one guest bathroom and one communal bathroom that contains 6 shower stalls and 6 regular stalls on each floor. Additionally, Earhart has tons of places to hang out and study! The East lounge is great if want to hone in and work on homework, and when you need a break, play some ping pong or pool in the west lounge!  For a room tour of Earhart Hall, check out this video:

Shreve Hall also houses a variety of learning communities including the Women in Engineering, Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS), and Band and Orchestras - Engineering learning and living communities. Besides housing, it provides areas to study, hang out with friends, or both! These include the back lounges (ideal for movie nights), the east rec room (with ping pong, pool, and a flatscreen), the main lobby, and the quiet study. The most valuable resource that Shreve residents have just downstairs, though, is the University Residences Support Center which happens to host the Women in Engineering/Women in Science tutoring! Besides being a space for tutoring, the URSC is an ideal meeting place for group projects or individual study with private study rooms, conference rooms, whiteboard tables and easels, and a computer lab with printing. In the basement, there is a practice room equipped with a drum set and a piano for any band or orchestra students, or anyone with free time.  Read more about the URSC here: https://www.housing.purdue.edu/residentiallife/URSC/URSC.html

Just like Earhart and Shreve, Harrison is full of great study places on the first floor and lobby area. There’s also a recreational lounge on the first floor complete with a pool table, ping pong, and darts. Unlike Earhart and Shreve, you don’t need to check out a key to use the kitchenette on the first floor of Harrison. Studying late and need a midnight snack? Harrison Grille is a late night hot spot open as late as 1 a.m. on the first floor, and it's known for its milkshakes and variety of late night snacks. In addition to Harrison Grille, Harrison is right next to Earhart and Hillenbrand Dining Court!

Although McCutcheon is the farthest residence hall on campus, it has its perks! It recently had its bathrooms remodeled and guest bathrooms added to each floor. Like Shreve, it also has a practice room for those who don’t want to walk all the way to Elliott Hall. Other additional perks include the kitchen accessible to all students without a key and three different lounges.
