Residential Life Series: Cornerstone

The Cornerstone neighborhood is made up of the Honors College, Meredith, Windsor, and Third Street Suites.

Honors College and Residences
The Honors College and Residences consists of two buildings, North and South, and it's where freshmen in the Honors College stay their first year at Purdue. In North’s basement, there is a laundry room, a communal kitchen, a rec room (with a ping pong table and pool table), and music practice rooms with pianos. There is also a laundry room in South’s basement and a tunnel that connects the two basements. On the first floor of North, there is a Great Hall where students often come to study, the front desk (where you can check out keys to the kitchens, ping pong racquets, board games, etc.), and Cosi (a restaurant that serves sandwiches and salads and has famous bread samples). On South’s first floor, there’s another communal kitchen and classrooms where Honors students often take the Honors 19901 classes their first year. There is a communal bathroom with two shower stalls, two regular stalls, three sinks, 2 hand-dryers and a guest bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower for every 6-8 rooms on a floor. There are also three lounges on each floor with tables, couches, TV’s, and whiteboards where students can hang out and study.

Meredith

Meredith hall is currently an all-girls residence hall with three floors. It has a unique x-shaped layout that sets it apart from other dorms. Meredith hall does not have air conditioning, as a few other residence halls also do not have. This residence hall is at a great location on campus, with the recreational sports center right across the street! It also is only a few minutes from four dining courts, a huge advantage to other dorms. Now to focus on the inside of Meredith: Meredith hall has many great aspects. While the dorm rooms are not air conditioned, the basement of Meredith is--there are couches, tables to study at, and even a pool table. There are also a few food options at Meredith. A specialty dining court in the basement called The Gathering Place is open for dinner during the week, offering an alternative to the traditional dining courts. There is also Pete Za’s Pizza which offers a small pizza and a drink during the evening for only one meal swipe! The rooms in Meredith are narrow but long with great windows covering the whole back wall. Another advantage of a Meredith room is its storage space. It has a built-in shelf under the window, as well as shelves in the two provided closets. If more room is needed, there are additional cubbies to store boxes and luggage above the doors. If you don’t want to spend too much time in your room, there are two lounges located on the first floor in the Northwest and Southeast part of the building to hang out or do homework.

Windsor

Windsor is a beautiful residence hall for women with both single and double rooms made up of five buildings (Wood, Warren, Vawter, Shealy, and Duhme) connected by underground tunnels. This feature is perfect for those who want food without walking outside, as the Windsor dining court and Windsor On-the-Go can be found on the ground floor of Vawter. Between the five buildings, there is a practice room, a movie theater, three kitchens, an exercise room, a rec room with a pool table, ping pong table, and jukebox, two laundry rooms, guest bathrooms and showers, and numerous study rooms and lounges! Residents not only have access to all these rooms, but also quick access to campus, second only to Honors College residents.

Third Street Suites
Third Street Suites is primarily an upperclassman residence hall. The units are intended to house 4 people and include 2 rooms, a “living room” of sorts, and a bathroom. Third Street Suites is conveniently equipped with a Starbucks and Third Street Market on the 1st floor, where you can use dining dollars to buy essentials ranging from over-the-counter medicine, to frozen dinners, to phone chargers. Additionally, Third Street Suites is situated on Third Street across from Windsor, near Wiley dining courts and right next to Krach in case you need a place to study!
