Advice to Female Engineers:
- It’s okay to like what you like
- Other people should not define what you do
- Be confident in what you want, find people who support you
- Always keep in mind why you want what you want - its long term instead of the classes you are in right now
On What Inspired Her:
- Knew little about engineering so I didn’t know that there weren’t a lot of females
- Grew up in blue collar area and didn’t have a lot of engineers, electrician for dad who worked and complained about engineers
- Being a part of the design of everything and how useful it is
- Engineering shapes our future - important to have a diverse group
- Interest in research brings in the diverse group of people aspect
Application of Engineering Principles to Her Career:
- How to approach problems
- Learning how to find a solution within your constraints
- There is a solution - not one right answer, but there is a solution
- Think about systems in a methodical way -- what behaviors will this action drive
Favorite Aspect of Her Job:
- Watching students grow and develop into who they are
Best Advice Received when she was a College Student:
- Philosophy: if something is worth doing, it is worth putting your time into
- Don’t be a perfectionist
- Good balance between the two
